HEAD OF FINANCE

Salary: Circa £65,000 per annum

Key Benefits: 8% employer pension contribution (after probation) and 25 days holiday

Location: Hybrid - Mandatory 2 days a month in the London office, other office attendance as required to meet business needs and fulfil role responsibilities

Terms: Full-time, permanent contract

 

We are looking for an experienced, qualified accountant to lead the DEC’s finance function, ensuring accurate day-to-day accounting and robust financial controls, and delivering high-quality management and statutory reporting. The Head of Finance oversees budgeting and forecasting across the Secretariat, leads the annual audit and year-end accounts production, and provides clear financial insight to budget-holders and senior stakeholders. 


During the DEC public appeals, the role plays a critical part in processing and reconciling high-volume donation income at pace, maintaining strong controls across multiple channels, and supporting timely reporting and allocation of funds to our members. 


You will line manage the Financial Accountant (Income) and Finance & Administration Officer, work closely with internal teams and Member Agencies, and contribute to governance by preparing papers and presenting to Trustees and the Audit, Finance & Risk Committee, deputising for the Director of Finance & Resources as required.

CONTRACTUAL REQUIREMENTS & BENEFITS 


Location & Hours


Based in our London office (17–21 Wenlock Road, N1 7GT).


Daily core working hours are 10am to 4pm, in line with your contracted days & hours per week.


Annual Leave


25 days per year, plus bank holidays. This increases to 27 days after 3 years, and 30 days after 5.

 

We close between 27th and 31st December, taken from your leave allowance.


Flexible Working


Fully remote contracts are not offered, but flexible working arrangements can be agreed with your manager.


Appeals


During major public appeals, staff may be asked to work extra hours and attend the office more frequently.

 

These hours are recoverable through TOIL.


Sick Pay


Statutory sick pay during probation. Discretionary company sick pay applies after.


Life Insurance


3x your salary, paid to your chosen beneficiary.


Pension Scheme (via Royal London)

 

  • During probation: 3% DEC / 5% employee

  • Post-probation: 8% DEC / employee can choose level of contribution
     

Contributions start the month after joining (if start date is on or after the 2nd).
